Graphic Design Guru / Web and Front End Developer (San Diego)

We are a startup company looking for a visionary graphic designer to take our companies core concept and design the complete look and feel of the site. This is a contract job and will require a great deal of communication, artistic experience and web design knowledge.
What we are looking for is a graphic designer that can take the design specs we have written and turn them into a visual masterpiece that will showcase our site.
The individual that we are hiring will essentially be designing every page of our site. This will include the layout, colors, logos, and themes. From the first page a visitors see to the last page they navigate to, this will be their creation. While they will not be coding the site, they will have to take into consideration the users experience and navigation while on the site. This is why we are looking for an individual that has an understanding of not only graphic design but as well as web design and modern rich web user interfaces that will be integrated into the layout and navigation of our site.
What this individual will design will then be sent to out to our programmers to develop functional specs around. Meaning what each button, link and page does, which in turn will be sent out to draft our technical specs. The technical specs will house the entire concept from design, functionality and coding, so that the site can be coded seamlessly. So this is an absolutely important and critical step in our site completion.
We want an individual that has that eye for design, one that can take written docs (which is essentially what you will be receiving from us with our original functionality specs) and turn them into a site that best represents our company's vision.
Please take into consideration that this is a contract job. However, we are evaluating talent and may be interested in considering the rignt individual to join our team at a future date.

Last but most importantly the individual must be comfortable with keeping in constant communication with the project manager. Weekly updates are required as there will be defined deliverable dates.
3+ years of formal creative education
3+ years of direct industry experience
Complete MASTERY of graphic design skills
Complete MASTERY of valid XHTML, HTML and CSS
Must have design skills in Adobe Creative Suite, working knowledge of Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator , Fireworks and InDesign
Strong knowledge of web standards, and the ability to create CSS-based (table-less) designs w/ cross-browser compatibility from scratch
Experience with modern JavaScript libraries for rich Web user interfaces such as jQuery
Solid understanding of SEO design and development best practices
Solid analytical, conceptual, quantitative and technical skills with the ability to trouble-shoot and solve problems
Desire to learn new technologies *and*_work outside of your comfort zone
Attitude of personal accountability for results and achieving individual and company goals
Understanding and consistent application of usability standards and best practices
PHP Smarty experience is a Plus since if the individual can design and code a site which can be navigated through will have high priority to those that cannot.
